Membership Contribution Adjustment Effective 1 April 2026 and Change Of Our Bank Details
⚠ Action required ⚠
The most important points:
- We are changing our bank!
- Switch to the new bank details for transfers (see Usersuite)
- From April 1, 2026: 7€ membership fee per month
Effective 1 April 2026, the membership contribution of AG DSN will be adjusted from 5.00€ per month to 7.00€ per month. Regardless of this adjustment, AG DSN will of course remain a student initiative and will continue to be run on a voluntary basis.
The contribution increase was discussed in detail and approved at the General Assembly on 15 October 2025. The corresponding minutes can be viewed as usual (German only).
In addition, we are switching our main bank to cut costs. You can find our new account details in the Usersuite.
Why is this adjustment necessary?#
The adjustment of the membership contribution is required for two main reasons:
- General cost increases (inflation): The membership contribution was last adjusted in 2018. Adjusted for inflation alone, a contribution reflecting current purchasing power would already be around 6.30€ per month today.
- Expansion of the Wi-Fi infrastructure in the dormitories: Our goal is to provide comprehensive, AG DSN-operated Wi-Fi coverage in all dormitories in the long term.
Based on the first projects already implemented and improved planning data, it has become clear that nearly twice as many access points are required for reliable coverage than originally assumed. This results in higher investment and operating costs.
What benefits does the project offer?#
The centrally operated Wi-Fi provides significant benefits for you:
- No personal router required in the dorm room
- Network and internet access not only in your own room, but also across all other dormitories and selected cafeterias
- Improvement of the Wi-Fi for all users by reducing the load on radio channels, especially in large dormitories
Even in the current rollout phase, the service is seeing high levels of acceptance. Initial data indicates a clear trend away from traditional wired connections toward flexible Wi-Fi usage. In buildings where the upgrade has already been completed, less than 50% of our members, and in some places even less than 20%, use a cable connection for their internet access.
A multi-year financial plan has been developed to fund the project, including ongoing maintenance of existing infrastructure, and necessary purchase of new hardware. The plan shows the previous contribution is insufficient.
Why are we switching banks?#
Because most of our members pay their contribution via monthly transfers, our banking fees reached an all-time high. After looking into several ways to handle this, we've decided that our current bank is no longer the right fit for our needs.
Switching banks allows us to cut our banking fees by over 50%.
Please note that the old bank details will no longer work after May 2026.
What needs to be done now?#
Please adjust your existing standing order on time. If you have paid contributions in advance, please transfer the corresponding difference amounts. You can view your current account balance at any time in the Usersuite.
From May 2026, we will no longer accept transfers to the old bank account!
